It gives me great pleasure, to introduce myself to the school community, as the new Headteacher of Vicar’s Green Primary School. I feel extremely privileged to have been appointed by the governors and consider myself very lucky to have the opportunity to take over the leadership of a school with such a good reputation in the community Everyone’s support and co-operation has made the transition into this new role a smooth and easy one. I have thoroughly enjoyed my first week.
I have been a part of the Vicar’s Green team since September 2010, when I started here as the Year 6 class teacher and subject leader for English. During my 12 years as a full -time teacher, I was fortunate enough to have had the opportunity to teach all age groups, from Nursery to Year 6. The greater part of my classroom experience has been concentrated in Upper Key Stage 2. As the Special Education Needs Coordinator (SENCO) I am aware of the strategies and techniques used to teach and assess children, who need support over and beyond quality first. This experience has given me a comprehensive overview of the journey of a pupil, through their primary education.
Having a son in Year 9 and a daughter in Year 6, has helped me experience the pleasures and challenges we as parents encounter. I am aware, how change can affect the way pupils feel about school. The school remains in a secure place and the expectations of all staff (teaching and non-teaching) will be as high as they were before.
As the leader of the school, my primary role is to make sure your child is safe, happy and achieving well whilst they are at school. The staff and I will be spending the next few weeks making sure all the children settle into their new classes and are clear about the high expectations we have of them. It is the aim of the whole school team to help each child become a successful learner and a well-rounded individual, who is ready to make the next steps in their learning journey.
I am keen to meet parents and carers, to give you the opportunity to say hello and also ask any questions you may have. Most days I am to be found in the Key Stage 2 playground, both before and after school.
