Message from the Headteacher
At this week’s staff Inset, teachers were evaluating the impact of oracy initiatives across school. Oracy in primary schools aims to develop pupils' ability to think strategically when contributing to discussions, by teaching them various talk tactics such as listening, challenging respectfully, building upon ideas, and summarising. As a part of this, we were shown little video clips by Year 1 children where they were demonstrating the process of baking cupcakes. It was such a delight to hear the children use imperative words accurately, speak in complete sentences and use intonations for effect. And of course the cupcakes looked rather yummy.
Last Friday, the children found a little hedgehog, whose leg was severely injured and wanted to make sure that he was looked after. Mrs Simpson contacted Pumpkins Wildlife Hospital to find out how we should look after this little animal. A lovely lady called Karen, gave her an appointment to take the hedgehog to the hospital where he is being treated in ICU. The children have named him Sonic, and I thought it would be nice to share his picture with you too.
A few holiday reminders to all of our families, please remember that logos and patterns in haircuts are not allowed as part of our school uniform policy. All PE kits need to be washed and returned for the first day back, and finally please make sure your child’s school shoes still fit, and if you do decide to buy new shoes these need to be completely black with no other colour on them. Do remember boots are not part of the school uniform.
