Message from the Headteacher

This week, our EYFS and Key Stage 1 children have been rehearsing for their Christmas Nativity, filling the corridors with songs and excitement. We look forward to sharing their performances with you soon! Dates are on the calendar below.

The school is starting to look festive, thanks to our wonderful parent volunteers who decorated our trees. A big thank you to all who helped create a special atmosphere as we approach December.

Over the weekend, fly-tipping occurred outside the school gates. We contacted the borough immediately, and the area has now been cleared. Thank you to those who raised their concerns.

To ensure the safety of our school community, we’ve had parking bollards placed on the zig-zag lines outside the school to create a clear zone during drop-off and pick-up times. We appreciate your support in respecting these safety measures.

Yesterday, our governors visited and joined us for our spectacular Science Afternoon. The classrooms were transformed into mini-labs, and the children had a great time with hands-on experiments and investigations. The governors were truly impressed by the active learning taking place.

Our Year 5 and 6 children also visited Ellen Wilkinson School yesterday for a sitting volleyball competition. They showed incredible teamwork and persistence, earning a well-deserved silver medal. Congratulations to the team and the staff who supported them!

Finally, today, the children in Year 4 had a Viking workshop, bringing their learning to life with artefacts and hands-on activities. It was a fantastic way to explore history!

Warm regards                                                                       Iman Basu Roy

Hockey year 5/6

On Friday 15th November, the year 5s and 6s went to St Augustine’s (high school) to attend a hockey competition. We used public transport (a bus) to get to our destination. We were supervised by two teachers-Mrs Deepak and Mr Dwyer.

When we arrived, we consumed our lunches prior to being divided into two teams –team A and team B. We then sat in a straight line to listen to the rules and instructions of the hockey matches. After this ended, we continued to practice using the skills we learnt during the previous training session we had at school led by Mr. Rasiah. Then each team from Vicars Green was ordered to go to their set pitches where all their games, including their first match, were due to be held. Team A won two out of four matches yet team B tied two. In the end, team A came back with bronze medals and even though team B didn’t get anything, they still walked out of the school with a positive attitude and with their heads held high. Overall, we had a brilliant time and would love to experience this again.
