Message from the Headteacher

This year’s theme for Black History Month, underscores a commitment to correcting historical inaccuracies and showcasing the untold success stories and the full complexity of Black heritage. It’s about taking control of stories and honouring the heroes while challenging the narratives that have often overlooked the contributions and achievements of Black individuals both in the UK and globally. The journey of reclaiming narratives is not just a theme for Black History Month; it’s a movement towards acknowledging and appreciating the myriad contributions of Black individuals throughout history. It is about embracing, educating, and empowering one another through the stories that shape collective identity.

Throughout the month of October, pupils in each year group has focused on one individual and studied their contribution to society. They analysed texts, learnt about their lives and written various non-fiction genres to demonstrate their understanding. We have dedicated this week’s newsletter to showcase some of our work to give you a flavour of what we have been learning in school.

During half-term many of our families will be observing Diwali, the festival of light, when many Hindus celebrate the victory of good over evil, and often pray to Laxmi the Goddess of Wealth. It also marks the start of the Hindu new year. I wish all those celebrating a ‘Happy Diwali’.

Warm regards                                                                       Iman Basu Roy
