Message from the Head Teacher
To celebrate National Poetry Day, which this year fell on Thursday 1 October 2026, with the theme ‘Wonder’, celebrating the curiosity and imagination that poetry can inspire. All classes across Key Stages 1 and 2 learnt a poem and performed it in front of other children. The activity provided a valuable opportunity to develop pupils’ memory and retention, alongside their speaking and oracy skills, including presentation, voice modulation, expression and the use of actions to engage an audience.
It was wonderful to see the range of poems chosen, from playful tongue twisters to lively raps, and to watch the children perform with such enthusiasm and creativity. These performances encouraged pupils to step outside their comfort zones, build confidence in speaking aloud and appreciate the rhythm, sound and expressive power of language. Listening to one another also helped develop respectful audiences, while exposing children to different styles of poetry and performance. Activities such as these bring learning to life, showing that poetry is not simply something to read on a page, but something to enjoy, perform and share.
There has been a change to the eligibility criteria for Free School Meal Vouchers and now fall under two groups targeted and expanded; if your child falls in the former category, they will also be eligible for pupil premium, travel, HAF. Please make sure you check your eligibility, and if unsure, contact the school office, and they can guide you through this process.
October 21st is World Apple Day, created as an annual celebration of the fruit, local distinctiveness, orchard conservation, and the vast genetic and cultural diversity of apples. It would be great if you could encourage your child to have an apple to mark this occasion.
