Message from the Head Teacher
Last week brought unusually high temperatures, and we are incredibly proud of the resilience, stamina and good humour the children showed throughout. They adapted brilliantly to the heat, remained engaged in their learning, and supported one another throughout the school day. We are also very grateful to parents and carers for ensuring children came into school in sensible, breathable clothing and were well-prepared for the conditions.
Our early pick-up option proved very popular and enabled many families to collect their children earlier during the hottest parts of the day. Throughout the week, we continuously reviewed and updated our risk assessments in line with changing conditions to ensure the safety and wellbeing of all pupils and staff. As part of this, the Year 1 trip was postponed, as we felt the extreme temperatures were not suitable for our youngest children. For other planned visits, reasonable adjustments were made, including the use of underground transport where air conditioning was available, revised timings, and changes to lunch arrangements to minimise exposure during peak heat. Additional cooling measures, portable coolers, frozen water bottles, and gazebos to create shaded outdoor areas were provided. These small but effective adjustments helped us maintain a safer and more comfortable environment for everyone.
Overall, it was a week that demonstrated the strength of our school community. The children showed remarkable adaptability and positivity, staff responded with care and flexibility, and families worked closely with us to support safe attendance. Together, we ensured that learning continued meaningfully despite challenging conditions, and we are grateful for the shared commitment that makes our school such a supportive and resilient place.
