Message from the Head Teacher
At the start of the year, our motto is to build strong foundations, so every pupil is equipped to learn, grow and succeed. At Vicar’s Green, we know that strong foundations are built through the everyday experiences that shape children’s attitudes, confidence and approach to learning. Emphasis on routines, expectations and independence, help pupil to understand what is expected of them and take responsibility for themselves and their learning. Regular attendance and punctuality are fundamental to children's success. The school gates open at 8:50am and registration is taken at 9am; so there is ample time for children to settle into their morning class routines. In order to develop independence and resilience, all pupils must carry their own belongings when they enter school – due to safeguarding reasons, they are not permitted to head back to the gate and collect things on a regular basis.
A well-balanced diet and healthy routines are an essential part of wellbeing. Our school dinners are planned by nutritionists and provide a range of items carefully selected for nutritional value. They also introduce children to a wide range of tastes, flavours and textures; so they grow into adults with healthy food habits. The school lunch hall is well monitored by staff to make sure all pupils are eating and provide assistance to the younger children should they need it.
Good sleep is something that children need to grow and develop. Therefore, it is essential that use of electronic devices are stopped a couple of hours before bedtime, so the brain can get the time required to unwind and get ready for sleep. Shared bedtime reading is a wonderful family activity and helps children to settle before they go to sleep. We value the support, communication and engagement of our families and recognise that children make the greatest progress when the adults around them work together.
I look forward to welcoming you at the upcoming Year Ahead meetings. These will not only give you information on current topics related to your child’s education but will also be an opportunity to meet other parents.
Warm regards Iman Basu Roy
