Message from the Head Teacher
This week, our Year 6 pupils performed in their drumming showcase, for which they have been practising over many weeks. It was a truly entertaining half an hour, during which we experienced drumming, singing and recorder performances. As these children are the oldest pupils at Vicar’s Green, it was wonderful to see how their musical abilities have developed throughout their time with us.
From the bottom of my heart, I hope they continue to pursue music when they move on to high school, as music truly is food for the soul.
Today, we were delighted to welcome a special visitor to our school, the poet Joshua Seigal. During his visit, he led two assemblies: one for children in Years 1 to 3 and another for pupils in Years 4 to 6. He performed some of his poetry, shared his experiences as a poet and answered the children's questions. In addition, a number of pupils from across the school had the opportunity to participate in a workshop with him.
Real-life experiences such as these inspire our children, spark curiosity about poetry and encourage them to read, write and perform their very own poems. Opportunities to meet authors, poets and other creative professionals help bring learning to life and foster a lifelong love of literature.
This week also marks the completion of all statutory assessments across the school. Our Year 1 pupils completed the Phonics Screening Check, while Year 4 pupils finished their two-week Multiplication Tables Check. Although these assessments provide only a snapshot of a child's learning at a particular moment in time, both pupils and staff have worked incredibly hard throughout the year in preparation for them.
As we move towards the end of the academic year, teachers will now be completing end-of-year assessments, moderating children's work and preparing annual reports. This is an important opportunity to celebrate the progress each child has made and to reflect on their achievements over the course of the year.
