Message from the Headteacher
Black History Month is the annual celebration takes place every October to commemorate the history, achievements, and contributions of Black people in the UK and to promote awareness of their role in shaping society. As part of this event, each year group is learning about an inspiring individual who has helped shape the future of their field — from science and literature to sport and the arts. Through these studies, pupils are exploring how perseverance, creativity, and courage can make a lasting difference in the world. Children should also be receiving homework in topics related to black history over the next few weeks – these could be used as an anchor for discussion at home to increase their awareness.
In art, we are taking inspiration from Tinga Tinga paintings — a vibrant and distinctive style that originated in Tanzania. This form of art was founded by Edward Saidi Tingatinga, who used bold colours, enamel paints, and imaginative depictions of African wildlife to tell stories full of energy and joy. Children are enjoying experimenting with this colourful style to create their own Tinga Tinga–inspired pieces.
A reminder to all parents to please book your slot for the upcoming Parent Consultations. These meetings are a valuable opportunity to discuss your child’s progress, celebrate achievements, and identify next steps in their learning. Your partnership plays a vital role in supporting your child’s journey through school, and we look forward to seeing you there.
Warm regards Iman Basu Roy
