During these early weeks, Mrs Simpson and I worked on drafting the school priorities for the coming academic year. We start by evaluating how last year went and which initiatives have been successful and which need to be continued. Following this exercise, we then look at the key themes that are dominating education across the country. Currently, these are the themes we will be focusing on:
Pupil Wellbeing & Mental Health – creating safe, nurturing environments where every child feels supported.
Curriculum Priorities – balancing rigour with creativity, reading, oracy, enrichment and digital skills.
AI & Technology – exploring opportunities and challenges of new tools while safeguarding learners.
Inclusion & Disadvantage – closing attainment gaps through high-quality teaching and early intervention.
Staff Development & Retention – supporting wellbeing, professional growth, and manageable workloads.
Safeguarding & Behaviour – embedding a positive, consistent, relational approach.
Accountability Climate – focusing on improvement culture while responding to inspection demands.
Community & Families – strengthening trust and collaboration with parents and local partners.
In the weeks ahead, we will bring these national themes together with our own reflections to shape a clear set of school priorities. By weaving pupil wellbeing, curriculum development, innovation in technology, and our commitment to inclusion into a single plan, we aim to set purposeful goals that support every child and adult in our community. Once these priorities are finalised, I will share them with you so that everyone understands the direction in which our school is moving and can play a part in achieving it.
Warm regards Iman Basu Roy
