Believe Achieve Succeed

We are an OUTSTANDING School

Autumn 2017

Dear parents and carers of children in Year 2

Y2 Homework Arrangements

We believe that homework helps to reinforce the children’s understanding, knowledge and skills and to strengthen independent learning.

The homework tasks in Year 2 are:

Reading

  1. books will be changed on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays. Please listen to your child read daily. We ask you to spend some time daily reading with your child. Please comment on your child’s reading progress, and sign the reading record each day when you have heard your child read their banded book. Please note the page number that they have read to, so they can continue to read their book at school.

Other homework

  • Spellings for your child to practise

  • High frequency words to learn to read (if appropriate)

  • Maths/English homework will be linked to the learning in class during the week or preparation for the following week. It may also be linked to a topic and may involve research. Please speak to the class teacher if there are any questions about the homework that has been set.

    1. will be set every Friday and will be collected by the following Wednesday.

    Time

As a general rule 15 – 20 minutes per evening is suggested as appropriate for Year 2 children although this could be spread over the week/weekend. The homework should be kept safely and carried in a book bag that may be purchased from the school office.

    Yours sincerely
